About the Owner

My name is Donald Lee. Born in 1988 and raised in Lincoln, NE, I spent much of my early life chasing travel and adventure. I would work two or three jobs to fund my wanderlust, sell my belongings, and travel until the money ran out then return home to repeat the process many times over the course of a decade. Along the way, I walked thousands of miles through America’s wild lands, scuba dived along Thailand’s coast, climbed desert mountains in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, shared a pint at the world’s longest running pub in Ireland, and wandered through Roman architecture in Italy.

In 2018, everything changed. I married my devoted girlfriend, who had always been waiting for me when I returned, and together we’re raising two beautiful children. Transitioning from a semi-nomadic life to family life gave me something I hadn’t had in years: time at home. During our first year of marriage, I discovered a passion for woodworking.

That passion runs deep. My grandfather, Robert Lee, was a lifelong woodworker, and I spent time tinkering in his shop as a child while he worked on his projects. After he passed, his tools were boxed up and stored, gathering rust with miscellaneous screws scattered in every box, until I was given the chance to bring them back to life. Once restored and put back to work, I was hooked.

Today, I take pride in building quality, custom wood furniture for family, friends, and clients. Lee Summit Woodworking is a blended tribute to my grandfather, Robert Lee; my love of the mountains and wild lands I’ve explored; and my passion for using my hands to create custom wood projects.
